ABC-View Manager's Performance
This software strives to be quite powerful, it can give you an overview of all your files in one single list, even offline volumes like CD-Roms, ZIP-drives etcetera can be part of the collection.
ABC-View manages to keep track of all these files in memory, and is therefore (unlike Explorer) able to perform operations on all files at the same time.
The requirements for this approach meant that ABC-View had to be designed very efficiently from bottom up where it comes to memory consumption and fast and optimised algorithms.
What does the user notice
You as the user will find that ABC-View is much quicker when creating a list with your files. It will search them quicker, filter them quicker and will also show you all the thumbnails.
Thumbnails are stored, so when ABC-View has "seen" a picture once it will be able to give you the thumbnail every time afterwards.
Does ABC-View consume much space?
ABC-View's own format for collections (*.abc) is very efficient in storing file information. Typically, it uses only 10 to 20 bytes per file. Suppose you have 50.000 pictures, then this would translate to a database of around 1 Meg.
This does not include the thumbnails. Thumbnails contain graphical information which normally takes up more space. The thumbnails are stored as small JPG files inside one archive file. The same 50.000 pictures will probably use up 10 Meg for thumbnails storage. This depends on the thumbnail size that is chosen!
