Quicksteps
Here are a number of quicksteps which will guide you through the process of finding double files on your system.
Step 1: Select the folders you want to check
You can easily select individual directories by clicking the small folder icon on the right side in the directory editbox. Add the directories to the folder list by clicking the button Add to List. Big directory trees can be selected at once by selecting the root and checking Include Subdirectories.
Step 2: Refine the folder list
You can now refine the search by de-selecting certain folders that you do not want to check. For example, folders that you already did check, or folders that you want to keep as a backup.
Just highlight the folders you want to remove from the list by clicking with your mouse and then select "Remove From List". The folders are NOT deleted! They are only removed from the list.
If you want to run a check on a certain list more than once, then you can save the list with by clicking "Store List". At a later date you can then retrieve the list with "Retrieve List".
You can also clear the complete list and start with step 1 again by clicking "Clear List"
Step 3: Find Duplicates
By pressing the button Find Duplicates, the application will start detecting, indexing and checking files. This process can take quite some time, depending on the amount of files. The statistics pane shows the progress. You can cancel the process by pressing the cancel button.
Step 4: Select files which will be deleted
You can either manually select files in the Identical Files pane (by clicking in combination with [shift] key), or select files automatically by using one of the select buttons. When hoovering over a file, individual file information is displayed in the File Info pane at the bottom.
Step 5: Delete files
Finally, you can delete the selected files by pressing the button Delete Dialog This will display a confirmation dialog with an overview of the files to be deleted. You can still press No or Cancel at this point, to abort the operation. If you press Yes, the files will be permanently deleted.
